The Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department at HPA Gambelas welcomed 3rd-year Nursing students from the University of Algarve (UALG) for a school-context visit, integrated into the Obstetrics course unit.
The visit was guided by Nurse Patrícia Sancho, Head Nurse of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department at HPA Gambelas, Specialist in Maternal and Obstetric Health, and International Lactation Consultant. Nurse Sancho is also a lecturer in the Obstetrics course unit, which strengthened the link between academic learning and clinical practice.
The initiative came from the students themselves, who expressed interest in gaining first-hand insight into the hospital’s operations, particularly the functioning of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department.
During the visit, students had the opportunity to learn about the organisation of the service, the care provided to women and newborns, and to clarify questions related to Nursing practice in Maternal and Obstetric Health.
The feedback was very positive, highlighting the students’ interest, motivation, and engagement, as well as the importance of these visits for consolidating theoretical knowledge and familiarising students with professional practice.
